First Sale!

21May07

I wish that interesting things like this would happen to me when I refresh my browser too frequently.

This weekend was one of successes and failures. On the “success” side of the spectrum, I made my first Etsy sale! Andrea the Sea Anemone is soon to be on her way to a new home. It was extremely exciting to receive that first payment… until I realized that I would be spending it soon thereafter on business cards, shipping supplies, and more yarn. It never ends. But this is a good start.

Unfortunately, I failed completely at a) getting everything done that I intended to and b) making a pair of punky pink lace gloves. I started the gloves two different times between the hours of 11:30pm Saturday night and 2:30am Sunday morning, and both attempts were frogged for being much too big and fairly ugly. The problem is that the only pattern I was able to find so far is from 1941, and calls for size 50 crochet thread. The smallest size that I thought to buy is 10, and it’s just too big. I thought I could adapt the pattern, but I was sorely mistaken. So, that’s three hours I spent learning two ways to not make gloves - not a complete failure, but frustrating nonetheless. I might have to just suck it up and buy the teeny tiny thread, although I might have to dye them after they’re finished as I’m not sure the local craft store has any crochet thread that small in Barbie pink.

I did manage to list two new items, so that makes up for it somewhat. I also started a pretty new shoulder bag that worked up pretty quickly, and should be finished soon. I’ll post pictures of the work-in-progress if I have a chance tonight.
